Early physicality by the Falcons was the main difference between the two teams. Lake St had a defensive breakdown out front of Nick Kossoff which led to BGSU’s Freshman forward Max Johnson to open the scoring on a rebound from a Connor McDonald shot, @ 2:56. The Lakers would have the first power play opportunity when McDonald was called for interference @ 10:01. Overall it was a combination of sloppy puckahandling by LSSU and good penalty kill pressure by BGSU. The play was back and forth, with Lake St’s forwards putting good pressure along the Bowling Green boards. A Too Many Men on the Ice call against the Lakers @ 10:01 put the Falcons a man up. LSSU did a good job of killing it off. The Lakers picked up their momentum as the period wound down getting a few good chances on Freshman goalie Eric Dop, who had the easier period, as BGSU outshot LSSU 11 to 4. The Falcons also held the face off win edge 9 to 4.
